At STS, students meet and exceed Alberta’s provincial standards while learning within an internationally recognized framework.
We follow Alberta’s Programs of Study at every grade level and deliver them through the International Baccalaureate (IB) approach, combining rigorous provincial requirements with inquiry-based learning, global perspectives, and skill development that extends beyond the classroom.
The IB framework shapes how students experience the Alberta curriculum. Through inquiry, reflection, and interdisciplinary learning, students develop critical thinking, research, communication, and self-management skills alongside subject mastery. The result is a graduate who meets provincial standards and is prepared to thrive in competitive post-secondary environments worldwide.
All STS students complete Alberta Education requirements through age-appropriate IB programmes — the PYP in Kindergarten through Grade 5, the MYP in Grades 6–10, and the option to pursue the IB Diploma Programme alongside provincial graduation requirements in Grades 11 and 12.
This structure provides both consistency and choice, allowing students to tailor their academic journey in their final years.
Every STS graduate earns an Alberta High School Diploma upon meeting provincial requirements, ensuring credentials recognized across Canada and internationally. In Grades 11 and 12, students may further distinguish their studies by pursuing the full IB Diploma or individual IB Course Certificates.
This dual pathway provides both structure and flexibility, positioning them for admission to leading universities in Canada and abroad. At graduation, students leave STS with more than a diploma. They carry forward the intellectual discipline, global perspective, and resilience to think critically, lead confidently, and navigate what comes next with purpose.
STS is committed to transparency, strategic planning, and continuous improvement as an Alberta-accredited independent school. Two provincially required reports guide and measure our work: the Education Plan and the Annual Education Results Report (AERR).
Together, they provide clarity around where we are headed and how we are progressing.
The Annual Education Results Report measures and communicates progress toward the goals set out in the Education Plan. Prepared under the direction of the Board of Governors and submitted to Alberta Education, the AERR reports on performance results, accountability measures, and areas for continued growth. The 2024–2025 AERR reflects STS’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based improvement and responsible governance.
