GLOBALIZATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

Conceptual Understanding

How pivotal concepts and significant ideas are applied across disciplines. Students use these concepts to explore issues and ideas that matter to them personally, as well as those with local and global significance. This encourages a comprehensive and thoughtful examination of knowledge. The MYP identifies sixteen essential interdisciplinary concepts, providing a unifying framework that guides learning across all subject areas.

Approaches to Learning Skills

Embedded in all MYP subject groups, the following skills form the basis for independent learning and skill development, and equip students with the ability to learn effectively.

Grade 10 students undertake an independent research study called the ‘Personal Project,’ which serves as the culminating IB MYP experience. The final written or oral report undergoes assessment by an STS Teacher Advisor and, in some cases, an external IB examiner to maintain a globally consistent and high academic standard.

STEM Integration

STEM Integration: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – the MYP curriculum highlights STEM as a crucial perspective, and focuses on the integrated teaching and learning of scientific concepts and skills.

Inclusion and Learning Diversity

Beyond academic development, MYP nurtures students’ confidence in managing their learning, and in connecting classroom learning to the real world. STS has established an inclusive education policy, involving the entire Grade 7-10 cohort, which addresses both student assessment and instructional accommodations.

Language and Identity

Building a multilingual profile offers students a wealth of opportunities to connect with and belong to a diverse range of cultural and social groups. While supporting the development of empowering and affirming language in English, the MYP also requires all students to enroll in a second language course. This course is tailored to their individual stage of development as learners.
