Head of School Search FAQs

How were members of the Search Committee selected?

The Board of Governors chose members who are broadly representative of the STS community and who themselves represent diverse professional experience and cultural backgrounds, including Board Members, employees, faculty, alumni, and parents.

To facilitate the recruitment of high-quality candidates, the Head Search will be conducted as a confidential search, meaning the identities of or details regarding candidates will not be publicly disclosed during the search process. It is done to maintain the integrity of the process and to protect candidate confidentiality.

The Search Committee has launched a thorough and thoughtful search process. With input from the community through community consultations, the Search Committee will develop the Candidate Brief, which is scheduled to be released in mid-April 2026. The Search Committee will recommend the final candidate as Head of School for approval by the Board of Governors once the process is complete and when it makes most sense for the STS calendar and community. The Board of Governors will then announce their decision, timed with an announcement from the successful candidate’s school. The new Head will take office in the summer of 2027.

STS community members can provide input on the search process through a confidential and anonymous survey that will be administered by our search firm, Odgers.

In addition, our consultants will be holding some one-on-one meetings and focus groups.

You can also provide feedback or recommendations:

to Odgers via email at: stshead@odgers.com

to the STS BOG at: governance@sts.ab.ca

Odgers is a global leadership advisory firm, and their Canadian Education Practice has completed over fifty Head of School searches across Canada, in Bermuda, and in Europe. Under the leadership of Julia Robarts, the firm’s role in this process will be to develop a diverse pool of candidates, each highly qualified to meet STS’s needs. The firm will facilitate candidate engagement with the Search Committee and the Board and will support them through their review and selection process. All applications and nominations will be kept confidential. All decisions rest with the Search Committee, not with our consultants.

We are not able to comment on anything to do with candidates, but the search is well underway and we are pleased with how things are progressing.

The search is open to both internal and external candidates, but I cannot comment further.

The Candidate Brief will be available here, after comprehensive community consultations. It captures the wishes of the community and the Board and will give you a good sense of what we will be seeking in our next Head of School.
