Every Student, Every Voice
Student leadership at STS takes many forms. Some students run for Student Council or Prefects. Others find their moment leading a project, captaining a team, or being the person who makes sure everyone’s ideas get heard.
Leadership doesn’t always mean loud or obvious, it happens in the small moments between. When you advocate for a classmate, when you bring an idea to a teacher, when you organize something that brings people together. Students work with administration and faculty who listen, who want to help, and who take student voice seriously.
Representing Your Grade
Student Council
Three students from each grade in Middle and Senior School run for Student Council every year. They represent their peers, advocate for student needs, and work directly with administration to turn ideas into action.
Council members have organized book fairs that collected over 500 donations, created silent study spaces during lunch, and brought opportunities like the Calgary Youth Science Fair to campus. They discuss real concerns – uniform guidelines, better furniture, recognition for school clubs – and see those conversations lead to real change.
It’s the only elected co-curricular role at STS. Students campaign, make their case, and earn the trust of their grade. The work builds skills in advocacy, project management, and collaboration that matter in university, careers, and community leadership.
Serving the Community
Prefects
Prefects are Grade 12 students who serve the entire school community for the year. They embody Spartan spirit – approachable, positive, and genuinely invested in making STS feel welcoming for everyone.
Working as a team, Prefects support major school events and mentor younger students.,They’re visible across campus, not as enforcers but as leaders who demonstrate what it means to show up for your community.
Their focus is clear: build connection, create belonging, and lead with heart. Being elected as a Prefect is an honour with significant responsibility as their impact touches every corner of the school.
