At STS, the early years lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning. From Kindergarten to Grade 6, students build confidence, curiosity, and character in a supportive environment where they come to see themselves as capable, engaged learners.
Strong foundations in reading, writing, and math are paired with the habits, mindset, and love of learning that stay with children long after Elementary.
Dynamic classrooms, shared commons, and flexible studios are designed to support focus, collaboration, creativity, and movement throughout the day.
From arts and athletics to outdoor education and clubs, students are encouraged to try new experiences, discover emerging interests, and grow their strengths over time.
Learning is shaped by meaningful questions and real-world connections. Through units of inquiry, students make connections across subjects while developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and reflection. The IB Approaches to Learning are introduced in age-appropriate ways, building strong thinking, research, self-management, and social skills from the very beginning.
Elementary students learn in three vibrant learning communities, each designed to reflect their stage of growth.
K to 2: Forest Community
Grades 3 to 4: Mountain Community
Grades 5 to 6: Rivers & Lakes Community
Studios open into shared commons, allowing students to move naturally between quiet focus, small-group collaboration, and larger community projects. Flexible seating, natural light, and welcoming spaces help children better understand how they learn best.
Teachers collaborate across grades, and students regularly connect with peers beyond their homeroom. These daily interactions help build independence and self-awareness, while also nurturing empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility to others.
Giving every Elementary student opportunities for co-curricular exploration within the school day, inviting them to try new activities, build confidence, and discover lasting interests.
Programming rotates every six weeks, with students typically receiving one of their top three choices. Activities may include science, art, performance, public speaking, and more — giving students regular opportunities to explore, create, and grow.

Students join mixed grade groups (K-2, 3-4, 5-6) for weekly sessions, meeting new classmates and teachers while exploring in a fun, low-pressure setting that builds friendships across grades.

Older elementary students can select leadership-focused sessions like yearbook and house committees, student tour ambassador roles or community service activities.
From the moment a student arrives in Elementary, a team is there to support them. Classroom teachers, learning strategists, counsellors, and educational assistants stay closely connected, sharing insights and planning next steps together so that no student feels lost or overlooked.
Families know who to contact, what supports are in place, and how to partner with the school through each stage of growth.
Whether a student begins in Kindergarten or joins later in their Elementary journey, the goal is the same: every child feels seen, supported, and ready to keep growing with confidence in who they are.
