When your child joins STS, so do you!
When your child joins STS, so do you! Suddenly you have access to this whole network of other parents who genuinely care about making the school experience incredible. You’ll meet parents organizing fundraisers, yes, but also parents bringing slow cookers full of food to Saturday rehearsals, parents painting set pieces, parents who just show up because they want to be part of it. There’s room for however you want to be involved.
About the Parent Organization
The Parents’ Organization of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (POSTS) was founded to give purpose and structure to parent involvement at the school. For decades, parents, guardians, and grandparents have contributed to building what STS is today, and POSTS channels that energy into meaningful support.
The organization coordinates signature fundraising events like the biannual Black Watch Gala and Spring Fling, which provide essential resources for the school. But POSTS also manages the countless details that make school life run smoothly—when the middle school stages a production, POSTS volunteers fold programs, organize costumes, rent and deliver equipment, decorate the theatre entrance, and coordinate meals for cast and crew during rehearsals.
Getting Involved
Involvement with POSTS is entirely optional and completely up to you. All STS parents, guardians, and grandparents are welcome to participate in whatever way fits your life. There’s no expectation or minimum requirement! These are simply the ways parents choose to engage when they want to be involved.
Event Volunteering
Shape the direction of POSTS by serving on the executive team. Members organize resources, maintain school communications, and coordinate major initiatives throughout the year. Executive positions require ongoing commitment but offer meaningful involvement in how parent contributions support the school.
Executive Leadership
Contribute to specific events throughout the year—productions, galas, fundraisers, and recognition celebrations. Event volunteers handle logistics, coordinate details, and help ensure each occasion runs smoothly. Time commitment varies by event, offering flexibility for busy schedules.
Project-Based Support
Lend expertise or time to specific projects as they arise. Whether organizing costumes for a production, coordinating meals during rehearsals, or bringing particular professional skills to a school initiative, project-based involvement lets you contribute when it aligns with your availability and interests.
Community Connection
Attend POSTS events like the Black Watch Gala, Spring Fling, and Cup of Gratitude volunteer recognition. Build relationships with other families, support fundraising efforts, and stay connected to the parent community without ongoing volunteer commitments.
We'd Love to See You
POSTS events are open to all families and offer easy entry points into the parent community. Our calendar includes signature fundraisers like Black Watch Gala and Spring Fling, volunteer recognition events like Cup of Gratitude, and other gatherings throughout the year. You don’t need to be actively volunteering to participate! These occasions are for everyone and give you a chance to connect with the parent community. Join us when something catches your interest.
Past & Present
Community Perspectives
Parent commitment to STS spans generations. Historical voices from the school’s founding years join current parent reflections on what it means to be part of this community.
Jamila, 2024 Past POSTS President
“True to form, the parent community stepped forward with not one, not two, but seven crock pots to ensure every participant was fed. It was incredible to see individuals and teams stepping forward to support the performance.”
Alexandra Owens, Current POSTS President
“It’s not the big, polished moments that bring us together, it’s the small, sincere ones. the quiet conversations at coffee mornings. The helping hands setting up a staff appreciation lunch. The shared laugh in the organized chaos of a Track and Field meet.”
Former STS Headmaster Peter Ditchburn
“The Parents’ Volunteer Association was a phenomenal success…its activities promoted considerable spirit. We were so fortunate to have the support and commitment of our parent volunteers. We could not have advanced so far without them.”
Shirley Stephens Begg, former teacher at Tweedsmuir: An Academic School for Girls
“You just had to send home a note and boy, you had all kinds of volunteers. You were never begging for people to come and help with anything. They were always right there. Just ask them and it was done.”
