At Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS), Physical Education begins in the primary years, with students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 participating in daily classes and Grades 4 to 6 engaging four times per week. More than building fundamental skills, our program cultivates the curiosity to try new activities and discover lifelong hobbies and pursuits. Through engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences, students learn the Spartan values of character, commitment, and competence while exploring diverse physical activities—from team sports to individual pursuits—that can spark into lifelong passions.
Success and failure in athletics contribute meaningfully to character development. At STS, we emphasize sportsmanship, cooperation, and perseverance. Encouraging students to pursue both individual and shared goals with integrity and determination.
Athletics at STS go beyond the playing field, offering wide-ranging opportunities that appeal to diverse interests and skill sets. Students can take on leadership roles as team captains, managers, student coaches, referees, and officials. Through the Athletic Council, they may also organize and oversee specific athletic events. For those who wish to contribute in alternative ways, STS encourages involvement in:
Photography and videography
Statistics and data collection
Research and journalism
Promotion and marketing
